Since the Northern Expedition has been sent out from Kwong Tung, an alliance has been established between Fukien and Kiangsi. Therefore many persistent rumours have been circulating about the relations between Fukien and Kwong Tung. According to information from a reliable source, Kwong Tung in its Northern Expedition, besides re-inforcing Tong (Shang Chi) in Hu-nan, and stationing troops on the frontiers of Kiangsi to await opportunities to invade it, is maintaining the defensive towards Fukien, and has only ordered Ho Ying Yam to see to the proper defence of Chiu Ling, Tai Po and Iu Ping. The rumours that Kwong Tung has returned Chiu On to Fukien under certain conditions, are groundless, and the report that Cheung Ngai has exchanged shots with Cheung Ching at Chiu On, is untrue, for so long as Chau Yam Yan has not made up his mind to oppose Kwong Tung, Cheung Ngai cannot be expected to take steps on his own account

But it is a fact that Cheung Ngai has concentrated more than

2,000 men at Wan Shiu and Ma Sang, and moreover his 4th

Battalion under Li Kwok Shing was despatched to Wan Shiu from

Cheung Po a few days ago. It is indeed very difficult for

us to guess the object of such movements.
